Fluctuating job market
📊 This job market is weird. For all the talk about layoffs and slowdowns, overall things are in a good place. Here's the data from US Bureau of Labor Statistics affirming the statement.
The US added 187,000 jobs in July 2023. While this is down from previous months this year, it’s still up and above average for the decade before the pandemic.
There are more jobs open than people looking for jobs. The ratio is that there are about 10 jobs available for every 6 people looking for a job.
It seems to be taking people a bit longer on average to find jobs, as the percentage of people who have been unemployed for 15+ weeks has risen by – 3 percent to 36.9 percent, the highest in the last year.
But the realities remain the same - be intentional about your career, build your skills, expand your network, and be useful. Don’t just sit around and expect someone to hand you a job. Decide what you want to do and make it happen!
🌈 If you’re unemployed, don’t lose hope. The opportunities are there. The next role you take may not be perfect, but that’s okay. You can still find something that allows you to take a step toward what you’d like to do.

Career tips
🌇 Need different results? Do something differently!
If you've been applying for jobs constantly with the same resume and not getting any interviews, you need to do something different.
If you've been trying to do your job well in hopes that someone else will recognize your efforts and give you a promotion, but aren't getting any results, change your approach.
That's what creating a career strategy is all about. Recognizing what is not working, identifying something new, and driving towards a different result.
Otherwise, doing the same thing over and over will land you the same old results.
🏹 Reflect for a moment: What can you do differently to land an interview opportunity? What conversations can you have, projects can you take on, or relationships can you grow that might help you get a promotion?
What can you change to reach your goals?
📋 Make that your strategy!
Then take action and execute!
