🌃 A massive sidescraper, the power of proximity, and letting go
Quite a mix of topics today…
This time of year is sometimes difficult for me. Cold, cloudy winter is hanging on as I await for spring to arrive. The initial excitement of New Year’s resolutions has already died off for many of us. And yet, life moves on. In times like this, we need to find something that keeps us on an intentional path. What are we doing it all for? Family? Growth? Societal impact?
Whatever that is for you, find a way to connect to it and use that as fuel to become who you were meant to become.

🌃 A $500 Billion City of the Future?
Saudi Arabia is getting aggressive in trying to expand their influence and modernize their cities and infrastructure. And they are doing so with a HUGE project called NEOM, with an expected investment of $500 billion. It’s not just one city, but a combination of large projects to showcase sustainability, health, environmental protection, technology, diversity, and more. It’s part of what is dubbed “Vision 2030,” a large initiative to imagine a future for the country.
Perhaps the most famous project that people might know about is The Line. It is a long city that stretches across 170 kilometers, is 500 meters tall and is only 200 meters wide. There will be no roads or cars (although a high-speed rail will take you from end to end in 20 minutes), it will run on 100 percent renewable energy, and supposedly 95 percent of the land will be preserved for nature.
All while accommodating nine million people in a total footprint of 24 square kilometers, where everyone can get to work, school, and other life essentials within a five-minute walk. Sounds impossible? It’s not without its doubters and skeptics, as with all mega projects. But it’s one I’ll want to keep an eye on as it is full of concepts and ideas that have never been done before.
🏆 CAREER TIPS
📝 Career Tips - The Power of Proximity
Change is constant. We all need to change and adapt to new challenges, opportunities, and situations in life. We make changes in habits, thought patterns, and behaviors that we want to be different. Yet too often we try to make these changes alone, without the help of others. This is a bad idea.
There is a simple rule called the Proximity Principle. Essentially, it suggests that we form interpersonal relationships and become more like those we are close by. The people we spend the most time with rub off on us. Now, sometimes we don't always have a choice of who we spend time with in every circumstance. And if you're not happy with the influence they are having on you, you have some choices to make.
You can change your environment - new job, new living situation, new friends. You can also intentionally adjust where and with whom you spend your time. Bring people into your life that are doing things you want to do. Spend time at positive and inspiring events, have conversations with mentors, take on a new team project, or hire a coach to help you through a challenge/opportunity.
Engineer of the WEEK 1856 - 1915 Engineer - Inventor |
Nikola Tesla, born on July 10, 1856, in Smiljan, Croatia (then part of the Austrian Empire), was a brilliant and enigmatic inventor, engineer, and futurist. He immigrated to the United States in the late 19th century and quickly gained recognition for his innovative work in electrical engineering. Tesla's contributions include the development of alternating current (AC) electrical systems, numerous inventions related to electricity and magnetism, and pioneering work in wireless communication. Despite his incredible accomplishments, he faced financial challenges and spent his later years in relative obscurity, but his legacy as one of history's greatest inventors endures, with his name associated with countless technological advancements and the Tesla electric car company bearing his name in the 21st century.
