๐ŸŽ‘ A New 4-Dimensional Entertainment Venue in Vegas

If youโ€™ve ever been to Las Vegas, you know that the lights are always on. Now there is a completely new entertainment venue that lights up the area that is also an engineering marvel to think about: The MSG Sphere.

Built by the Madison Square Garden Company, this new venue has some seriously high-tech features.

  • It was originally supposed to cost $1.2b, but the budget inflated to around $2.4b, making it the most expensive venue in the history of Las Vegas.

  • Itโ€™s 112 meters high, and 157 meters wide.

  • Millions of LED lights on the exterior across 54,000 square meters that can showcase any image to external visitors

  • The interior is a 16k X 16k wraparound LED screen covering 15,000 square meters

  • There is a 4D effect with wind, sense, and climate controls to create an immersive experience

  • It will feature 18,600 seats on 9 different levels

  • The seats are designed to move and vibrate as the shows dictate

  • The audio setup utilizes 164,000 speakers for immersive sound

  • It is flexible to be used for concerts, ceremonies, virtual experiences, and more

The venue is so different, that content and shows have to be custom-made just for this venue. Itโ€™s cool to see the structural engineering approach they took as well, as the surrounding support structure uses interlocking triangles across the spherical shape.

The roof alone required 3,000 tons of steel across 32 trusses, covered in 4,600 cubic meters of concrete. There is an internal and external sphere. One for the internal venue and shows, and the latter for the exterior viewing supporting the millions of lights to create amazing displays outside.

๐Ÿ† CAREER TIPS

๐Ÿ“ˆ The Power of Supportive Mentors for Career Growth

There are few things that are as important to your personal development as finding good, supportive mentors in your career. It's important not only because you can gain knowledge and skills from a mentor, but also because they can help provide personal support and facilitate success in many areas.

I connect the importance of a mentor to Newton's 1st Law of Motion:

"An object at rest will remain at rest unless acted upon by an outside force."

A good mentor can act as that "outside force" to help you progress through your career, improve your current performance, and help you navigate complexities in personal relations, office politics, and negotiations.

It is beneficial to have both internal and external mentors from the perspective of your company. This is because they can advise and help you in different ways.

An internal mentor:

  • Can help you work through problems with business processes

  • Is able to connect you with specific people and resources available in your company

  • Is sometimes biased in advising you because of company responsibilities

An external mentor:

  • Can look at your entire career and advise you on various paths to take

  • Acts as an unbiased advocate for you

  • Will often connect you with people in different companies and industries to broaden your perspective

One definition of a mentor is a "wise and trusted counselor or teacher; an influential senior sponsor or supporter.โ€ Thus, a mentor ought to be trusted, influential, and supportive. It's therefore important to not just find any mentor, but a good mentor who can help you through various challenges that you need help with. A good mentor should be able to:

  • Provide you with new ideas

  • Challenge you to be better than you are

  • Be vested in your career growth and success

  • Hold you accountable for things you say you want to accomplish

If you find a mentor that is not doing these or related things, it is totally okay to stop a mentoring relationship and search for a new mentor that can meet your needs. It's your career, and a mentor is supposed to be an advisor. If their help isn't helpful, there is no reason to continue working with them.

You should be seeking mentors that are successful so that you can draw upon their success in your own career. There is no point in reinventing the wheel. While everyone is different, it's helpful to learn from someone who has "been there, done that."

The earlier you find good mentors the better. Some companies provide a mentorship program for new employees, but I would also suggest you find mentors outside of official programs. These relationships often feel more natural and less forced.

In all cases, remember also that a mentoring relationship is just like any other relationship - it goes two ways. You need to come prepared and willing to invest in conversation and learning so that you are not wasting your mentor's time. If you take personal responsibility for the success of your time together, you'll be much happier.

Engineer of the WEEK

1856 - 1915

Engineer - Inventor

Nikola Tesla, born on July 10, 1856, in Smiljan, Croatia (then part of the Austrian Empire), was a brilliant and enigmatic inventor, engineer, and futurist. He immigrated to the United States in the late 19th century and quickly gained recognition for his innovative work in electrical engineering. Tesla's contributions include the development of alternating current (AC) electrical systems, numerous inventions related to electricity and magnetism, and pioneering work in wireless communication. Despite his incredible accomplishments, he faced financial challenges and spent his later years in relative obscurity, but his legacy as one of history's greatest inventors endures, with his name associated with countless technological advancements and the Tesla electric car company bearing his name in the 21st century.

Is your cloud storage provider prioritizing privacy and security?

In a world where data breaches and cyber-attacks are becoming more frequent, securing your files and sensitive information is crucial.
That's why secure cloud storage is more important than ever before, especially if you're using it to store sensitive information. And that's precisely where Internxt comes in.

๐Ÿ“š BOOK RECOMMENDATION

โ€œMindsetsโ€ is a word that is used quite frequently, however, many of those who use it are unaware that mindsets are foundational to and dictate oneโ€™s success in life, work, and leadership. They are also unable to identify specific mindsets that are necessary for success. Ryan Gottfredson has created a comprehensive and research-based guide, Success Mindsets, that is designed to awaken readers to:

  • The power of mindsets

  • The four mindsets they need to have to be successful

  • The mindsets they currently possess through personal mindset assessment

This awakening process empowers readers to unlock the greatness within themselves and reach the heights of success that they have been seeking but have thus far been unable to obtain. Within Success Mindsets, Ryan takes readers on a self-awakening journey to identify and unlock the four success mindsets necessary to enhance success across their life, work, and leadership.
